SAUDI ARABIA - SASO
A Circular has been issued issued by the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce stipulating the need for Saudi Business Community to ensure that the goods imported in Saudi Arabia are in line with the standards set by SASO (Saudi Standards Organization). This control is being exercised to eliminate the flow of duplicate and contraband goods into the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The Custom Department will strictly adhere to the requirement of valid Certificate of Conformity issued by competent Authority from the Port of Origin in addition to the local requirement of SASO testing to obtain cargo clearance.
As per the Circular, from 4th November 2013 onwards, the Authorities will enforce strict measures to return the Shipment in case the commodities being imported are not conforming to SASO requirements and/or in the event the Certificate of Conformity is not obtained for those commodities which cannot be tested in Saudi due to lack of such testing facility here.
